Okay, in 500 words or less, here is an update since my last blog. Last time I blogged was a sad occasion. It was a tribute to our host, Fred Mourey, who after a courageous battle with ALS, passed away in December 2009.

Fast forward to 2010……Our show has been on hiatus now for 1 year, but my passion for poker has not! I still play cash, usually $2/5NL, about 3-4 nights a week, while I’m in town. The year started off with a trip to Las Vegas in late January during the Venetian Deep Stack, mid February I was off to Phoenix. Got some sun during the day and some fine poker games at Casino Arizona at night.

In March, I went down to the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, April I was off to Foxwoods in Connecticut (love that place) and early July to the WSOP. There were a few more poker trips back to Indiana and Atlantic City to the Borgata (another favorite)! Also made a trip to Texas with my husband and got up to Oklahoma for a couple of days and played at the casino up there.

I do usually try to go during a tournament series, even if I don’t play in the tourneys…cash games are super good at those times.

Fast forward to 2011….. A LOT more of the same. Guess I’m a creature of habit. There are just some places I really like to go. You get comfortable and get to know the staff and some of the locals as well. I still play cash games at Nautica Charity Poker Festivals up in Cleveland. These are actually some of the best games in the country, right here in my own backyard.

We hear in March-April 2012 time frame that our new Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland will be open with a 20-25 table poker room. We’re all looking forward to playing in the new room with lots of new faces (tourists) that will be coming into the city to check out the action!

I might make one more trip before year’s end. Once the holidays are here, I generally stay close to home, until January when all the fun starts up again.

Now some really good news. Looks like the Joe Average Poker Show will be starting up again. In addition to myself and my co-host, Charlie “Know It All” Knox we will have a new announcer. Brad Sussman “the Weather Guy”, well known from his years on Cleveland T.V., will be joining the cast. I hope he can forecast some pocket A/A’s for me!!

I promised under 500 words and you know poker players never lie! CYA soon……Robin “The Queen of Hearts”

On December 21st, 2008 the “Joe Average Poker Show” broadcast its last episode after 3 1/2 years on radio and television. Plans were to continue the show, but, unfortunately, were not possible due to progressive decline in health of the heart of the show, host Fred Mourey. Sadly, on December 12, 2009, Fred lost his courageous battle ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.) Finding someone to take his place wasn’t as simple as just getting a new voice or personality , but finding someone who knew and embodied the spirit of Fred. Finally, after nearly two years, the right person has become available.

WELCOME, BRAD SUSSMAN

Viewers of TV in Northern Ohio (and around the Nation for that matter) remember Brad Sussman from his days as a TV Weatherman. From Illinois to Texas to Florida to Ohio, Brad’s TV career has spanned a few decades. Brad has also been involved in radio since high school, and can still be heard providing daily radio weather forecasts across the country and filling in on many talk shows.

What most people don’t know is that for several years Brad gave up radio & TV to dedicate his time to run the ALS Association in Northern Ohio. (ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is a progressive neurological disease with no known cause, effective treatment or cure.) It was there that Brad rekindled his relationship with the original host of the Joe Average Poker Show – Fred Mourey. (Brad & Fred had crossed paths in the radio scene in Ohio… little did either know how fate would bring them together again.)

Shortly after Fred was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, Joe Average Poker Show Executive Producer Mark Siebert and Fred approached Brad with some novel ideas to raise money and awareness for ALS… Soon after that, a Poker Benefit Night at Nautica raised over $32,000 for the ALS Association, and Brad & Fred taped several Public Service announcements to raise awareness for the disease. Other poker events followed and thousands of additional dollars were raised through Fred’s spirit and dedication.

Fast forward to 2011: Sadly, ALS took Fred from us, but his vibrant spirit remains with us! The Joe Average Poker Show is no longer ‘on hiatus’, it is back! While no one can ever replace Fred, Brad asked the producers if he could take the seat as the new host of the Joe Average Poker Show . With Charlie and Robin and the usual cast-of-characters alongside, he wants to make it the most comprehensive and entertaining poker show on the planet!

It’s been awhile since my last blog, but what can I say…I’m just a lazy poker player!!!!! LOL…I hope you all like the new look of the site. I’ll be blogging more often and answering your questions about poker.

It’s been a busy the past few months, even though we’re not back on the air(more about that later). I’ve done some traveling, played some tourneys and have enjoyed some free time. Since the last blog I’ve been back to Las Vegas a couple of times, Atlantic City for the Borgata Fall Poker Open(or whatever it’s called) played some at Mountaineer Casino in W.V.

Most of my poker time is spent right here in beautiful downtown Cleveland at the Nautica Charity Poker Festivals playing $2/5NL. I think the games are actually the best anywhere. Also play in their larger tourneys..$250-500 range and have made 3 final tables out of the last 3 I’ve played..Not bad!!

Most of you might have heard by now that Casino gambling has finally been voted in here in Ohio. It was like the 4th or 5th time it was put to a vote and finally passed. I guess in the next couple of years I’ll be playing in a real cardroom close to home. I’ve heard some mixed opinions about the casinos, mostly from poker players. Their not so sure they want such easy access to Craps and Blackjack and they think it may hurt the poker games if players take their poker money and blow it in the pits….now that’s a different take on the subject!

Okay, about the show. I have people asking me all the time “When is the show coming back on?” If meetings were shows we’d be on every week!! What I’m saying is our producer and sponsors are still working out the details. Advertising $$$ are what keeps a show on the air. Hopefully we will return to the air this winter.

That’s it for now, got a poker game to get to……Robin aka Queen of Hearts

Hi Everyone!

I know it’s been awhile since my last blog. We’ve been getting a lot of inquiries to the site asking when we are returning to television and what I’ve been doing since going on hiatus in January.

First, our producer, Mark Siebert, is presently in negotiations with a potential new sponsor (yes it’s always boils down to the $$$) and in this struggling economy, it’s difficult. I do believe we will be back on the air this summer. We will probably have a new time slot, a somewhat new format, but the same old co-hosts… me and Charlie. Sorry to say, Fred will not be joining us this time, but Bob will be.

I’ve been doing a bunch of traveling since our break. Been to Horseshoe in Southern Indiana for Circuit events, Tulsa for the State Championships, West Virginia for a tourney series, Atlantic City (just to play) and I will be heading out to the WSOP, June5th for a week and then back again the beginning of July… if I win a seat in the Main Event!!!!

I’ve had no big “scores” to report on in the tourneys, but cash games have been going pretty well. I’d like to be running good at both at the same time… but you know how that goes.

Got to go, will keep you posted as soon as we have news of our return. Thanks, as always, for all your support and kind e-mails.

Robin aka Queen of Hearts
